Product Details
The Z41T-10 and Z41T-10C bronze seated gate valves are flanged, rising-stem wedge gate valves for water and low-pressure steam duty. The stem rises with the wedge, so an operator can read the valve’s position from the floor — the reason this pattern is specified on pump house headers and exposed risers. A machined bronze seat ring on the disc and body gives durable metal-to-metal sealing to 135°C, in a gray cast iron body (Z41T-10) or WCB cast steel body (Z41T-10C), PN10 from DN40 to DN600.
- Rising stem (OS&Y-type) wedge gate valve — open/closed position visible at a glance
- Bronze (brass) seat ring on disc and body: metal-to-metal sealing for water and low-pressure steam
- Z41T-10 gray cast iron body for general works; Z41T-10C WCB cast steel where strength matters
- 2Cr13 stainless steel stem with bronze stem nut, handwheel operated, low torque
- PN10 (1.0 MPa), shell tested 1.5 MPa, seat tested 1.1 MPa, to 135°C
- Full water range DN40–DN600, flanged ends, two-way flow
Product Overview
The Z41T-10 and Z41T-10C are flanged bronze-seated gate valves for water, low-pressure steam and non-corrosive fluids at moderate pressure and temperature. The wedge carries a machined bronze seat ring that closes onto a bronze seat in the body, giving a metal-to-metal seal that tolerates the temperature swing of heating and water systems better than an elastomer seat, and that can be re-lapped in service rather than replaced.
The Z41T-10 uses a gray cast iron body for economical general-purpose service; the Z41T-10C uses WCB cast steel for higher mechanical strength where the valve sees backfill load, vibration or repeated closure shock. Both share a 2Cr13 stainless steel stem and a bronze stem nut. The rising stem is the selection argument: because the stem travels up as the valve opens, position is visible without an indicator, which is what plant operators and fire-water specifications ask for on exposed valves.
A gate valve is an isolation valve, not a regulator. The wedge either lifts clean off the seats or sits fully down; held part-open, the exposed seat wires and the valve never seals again. Everything on this page assumes open/close duty.
What the Model Code Means
Z = gate valve, 4 = flanged connection, 1 = rising stem wedge-type single gate, T = bronze (copper alloy) seat; 10 is the PN10 class and a trailing C marks the WCB cast steel body. The non-rising-stem version of the same bronze seat is the Z45T; the resilient seated water gate is the Z45X. Compare coding on the Valve Model Decoder.
Core Strengths
Visible Position From a Rising Stem
The stem is threaded through the yoke and rises with the wedge, so the number of exposed stem threads shows how open the valve is. On exposed risers, pump houses and fire-water lines that is a genuine safety feature: an operator confirms isolation from a distance without touching the handwheel.
Bronze Seat That Can Be Re-Lapped
The bronze-on-bronze metal seat can be lapped back to a tight seal in the field when it wears or picks up a score, where an elastomer seat would have to be replaced or the valve scrapped. On a valve that may sit for years between operations, that serviceability is the point.
Two Body Materials, One Pattern
Z41T-10 gray cast iron covers standard water and heating duty at the best price. Z41T-10C in WCB cast steel adds strength for buried chambers, traffic loading and closure shock. Dimensions and flange drilling are identical, so the two are interchangeable in the line.
Stem Built for Wet Service
The stem is 2Cr13 stainless steel running in a bronze stem nut, the classic pairing for water: the stainless resists the standing moisture that seizes a plain steel stem, and the bronze nut keeps the thread free-running after long idle periods.
Full Water Range to DN600
The series runs DN40 to DN600 at PN10, so one pattern covers branch connections, distribution mains and pump station headers. That consistency reduces the spares and actuator interfaces a utility stocks.
Simple, Serviceable Construction
A bolted bonnet, a single wedge and a conventional packing set mean any maintenance crew can repack or re-seat the valve in line without special tools. There is nothing on the valve that needs a specialist.
Performance Specifications
| Model | Nominal Pressure PN (MPa) | Shell Test Pressure (MPa) | Seal Test Pressure (MPa) | Working Temperature (°C) | Applicable Medium |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Z41T-10 | 1.0 | 1.5 | 1.1 | ≤135 | Water, Steam |
| Z41T-10C | 1.0 | 1.5 | 1.1 | ≤135 | Water, Steam |
PN10 class only. The 135°C ceiling is set by the bronze seating and the packing; for hotter or higher pressure duty a steel-bodied wedge gate from the same family is the correct selection rather than a longer allowance on this one.

Rising Stem, Non-Rising Stem or Resilient Seat: Which Water Gate to Specify
| Requirement | Z41T rising stem bronze seat (this page) | Z45T non-rising stem bronze seat | Z45X resilient seated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Position indication | Visible from the rising stem | Not visible; add an indicator | Not visible; add an indicator |
| Headroom above the valve | Needs the stem stroke clear | None — fits shallow chambers | None |
| Sealing on dirty water | Metal seat; flush before commissioning | Metal seat; flush before commissioning | NBR-coated wedge absorbs sediment, bubble-tight |
| Potable water / buried vaults | Bronze seat, serviceable | Bronze seat, serviceable | Default choice: coated, zero-leakage |
| Low-pressure steam to 135°C | Yes | Yes | No — elastomer seat |
| Choose it when | Exposed valves where position must be read | Buried / confined installations | Water mains and fire-water where zero leakage matters |
If your specification calls for a resilient seated gate to AWWA C515 or EN 1171, the Z45X is the matching pattern; the Z41T and Z45T are the metal-seated answers where temperature or serviceability rules out an elastomer seat.

Installation & Maintenance Guidelines
- Leave the stem clear: because the stem rises, keep the stroke height free of insulation, trays or structure, and check it after any lagging work.
- Exercise idle valves: cycle a valve that sits closed at least once a year so the bronze seat and stem threads do not bond; monthly on critical lines.
Application Fields
The Z41T is the exposed-isolation valve of water and heating plants: municipal water supply and distribution networks; industrial steam and low-pressure heating systems; HVAC chilled and hot water circuits; fire protection systems (hydrant lines, sprinkler mains); process water treatment plants and cooling towers; general industrial fluid isolation. Where the valve is buried or the water is dirty, the non-rising Z45T or resilient seated Z45X is usually the better fit; where position must be read, the Z41T is the one to specify.

Frequently Asked Questions
Rising stem or non-rising stem – which do I choose?
Choose the rising stem Z41T where the valve is exposed and an operator needs to read position from the stem, such as pump houses and fire-water risers. Choose the non-rising Z45T where there is no headroom above the valve – a buried chamber or a duct – because its stem does not travel. Same bronze seat, same dimensions; the difference is only the stem and the yoke.
Why a bronze seat instead of a rubber resilient seat?
A bronze metal seat tolerates temperature to 135 degC and can be re-lapped in service, where an elastomer seat ages and must be replaced. The resilient seated Z45X seals tighter on dirty water and is the default for potable mains; the bronze seated Z41T is the answer where temperature, steam or in-line serviceability rule out rubber.
Can the Z41T handle steam?
Low-pressure steam to 135 degC, yes – that is within the bronze seat and packing limit. It is not a high-temperature or high-pressure steam valve; for saturated steam above that temperature use a steel-bodied wedge gate with a metal seat rated for the condition.
Is the gasket asbestos-free for export?
We supply non-asbestos compressed fibre gaskets for export markets, since asbestos is restricted under EU REACH and similar rules. If your specification names a particular gasket grade, send it and we will confirm.
How do I know if the valve is open or closed?
Look at the stem: on a rising stem valve the stem rises with the wedge, so exposed thread above the yoke means open. That visible indication is the main reason to specify the Z41T over the non-rising Z45T, which needs a separate position indicator.
What is the largest size, and is DN600 really available?
Yes, the series runs to DN600 at PN10 – the dimension table above lists it. Above about DN300 consider whether the handwheel torque is acceptable for your operators, or specify the same body with a bevel gear or the Z941H motor-operated version.
