Product Details
The RZ47F and RZ43F gas plate gate valves are flanged slab-gate isolation valves made for city gas networks: natural gas, LPG, coal gas and oil products. A floating O-ring seat with preload gives true zero-leakage shut-off in both directions, the self-cleaning disc wipes its own sealing faces on every stroke, and the full-bore passage lets pipeline pigs pass when the valve is open. WCB cast steel, PN10–PN40, DN50–DN1000, −29°C to 121°C; RZ47F has a non-rising stem for vaults, RZ43F a rising stem for position indication.
- Gas-specific plate (slab) gate valve: natural gas, LPG, coal gas and oil products
- Floating O-ring seat with preloading force — bidirectional zero-leakage shut-off
- Self-cleaning disc removes debris from the sealing faces on every open/close cycle
- Full-bore passage permits pipeline pigging and ball cleaning when fully open
- RZ47F non-rising stem for underground vaults; RZ43F rising stem with visible position indication
- WCB cast steel, PN10–PN40, DN50–DN1000, −29°C to 121°C
Product Overview
Gas isolates differently from water. A seat that weeps a drop an hour on a water main is a nuisance; on a gas main it is an explosive atmosphere. Low-pressure gas also leaves residues that bond steel seats and hard packing, which is why conventional water gates turn stiff and leak when specified into gas duty. The RZ47F and RZ43F answer that directly: a floating O-ring seat preloaded against the plate gives zero-leakage shut-off in both directions, and a self-cleaning disc shears particulates off the sealing faces every time it strokes.
Both models use a WCB cast steel body and bonnet, a surface-treated alloy steel disc and seat ring, a 2Cr13 stainless stem in an aluminium bronze nut, expanded graphite packing and PTFE sealing rings, with the seat maintained by oil-resistant sealing grease. Classes run PN10 through PN40 across DN50 to DN1000, and the full bore lets pigs pass a fully open valve without cutting it out of the line.
What it is not: not a throttling valve — plate gates live fully open or fully closed. Not for frequent quarter-turn operation on small bores either; the RQ41F gas ball valve is the right tool there. And not a water valve in disguise: for water duty the Z45X is cheaper and correct. Fire-test or anti-static conformity is not published on this page — send your project specification and we confirm per enquiry.
What the Model Code Means
R marks the gas-service family, Z = gate valve, 4 = flanged connection; the structure digit separates the two patterns — 7 = non-rising stem plate gate (RZ47F), 3 = rising stem (RZ43F) — and F denotes the fluoropolymer (PTFE) primary seat sealing. Full coding rules on the Valve Model Decoder.
Core Strengths
Zero-Leakage Floating O-Ring Seat
Floating seat design with O-ring sealing and preloading force ensures reliable bi-directional zero-leakage shut-off for gas media, solving traditional problems of hard operation caused by gas solidification.
Self-Cleaning Disc Mechanism
Special self-cleaning design automatically removes debris from the disc surface during each opening/closing cycle. Sealing faces remain protected from abrasive erosion throughout the valve’s service life.
Full-Bore Pigging Capability
Full-bore passage allows pipeline pigging and ball cleaning when the valve is fully open — essential for maintaining clean gas transmission lines.
Dual Stem Configurations
Available in non-rising stem (RZ47F) for underground and space-limited installations, or rising stem (RZ43F) for applications requiring visual position indication.
Graphite Packing and Grease Maintenance
The stem is sealed with expanded graphite packing and PTFE sealing rings, and the seat is refreshed by injecting oil-resistant sealing grease through the grease fitting — a gas seat you can service without a line break, which is how a weeping gas valve stays off the incident list.
One Pattern, Four Classes, Whole Network
PN10 through PN40 across DN50 to DN1000 lets a city gas operator standardise on a single plate-gate pattern from regulator station to trunk distribution — one spares logic, one maintenance procedure.

RZ47F vs RZ43F: Non-Rising or Rising Stem
| Feature | RZ47F (Non-Rising Stem) | RZ43F (Rising Stem) |
|---|---|---|
| Stem Type | Non-Rising Stem (NRS) — compact height | Rising Stem (RS) — visual position indicator |

Gas Line Valves: Plate Gate vs Water Gate vs Gas Ball Valve
| Requirement | RZ47F/RZ43F gas plate gate | Z45X / Z45T water gates | RQ41F gas ball valve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medium | Natural gas, LPG, coal gas, oil products | Water and non-corrosive fluids only | Natural gas pipeline service |
| Leakage philosophy | Floating O-ring seat, bidirectional zero-leakage for gas | Elastic or bronze seat proven on water, not gas | Reinforced PTFE seats, anti-blowout stem |
| Pigging the line | Full bore — pigs pass when open | Body cavity not piggable | Reduced/full bore ball — confirm per size |
| Anti-static / fire-safe design | Not published on this page — confirm against your project spec | Not applicable — water service | Stated on its page: anti-static grounding, fire-safe compliant design |
| Operation | Multi-turn isolation; DN50–DN1000, PN10–PN40 | Multi-turn isolation; DN40–DN1000 (Z45T), DN50–DN600 (Z45X) | Quarter-turn, fast shut; DN15–DN300, PN16–PN40, ≤100°C |
| Choose it when | Gas mains, vaults, stations, lines that must be pigged | Water networks | Small bore, frequent cycling, rapid shut-off |
Rule of thumb: the plate gate is the line-stop valve of a gas network — big bores, buried vaults, pigging. The ball valve takes branches and meter sets cycled often: see the RQ41F gas ball valve. Water patterns never cross over: Z45X and Z45T are seat systems qualified on water, not on gas.

Design & Manufacturing Standards
- Design and manufacture: GB/T 12232
- Testing and inspection: GB/T 13927, API 598, ISO 5208
- Pipeline valve standard: API 6D
- Flange reference: ANSI B16.5
- Valve designation: JB/T 308
These are the standards published for the series on this page. Fire-test certification and anti-static conformity are not listed here and will not be invented; if your specification calls for them, send the clause and we confirm the compliance route with your quotation.
Installation & Maintenance Guidelines
- Support the line: Install with adequate support on both upstream and downstream piping. Gas service requires proper anchoring to prevent stress transmission to the valve body.
- Flush before commissioning: Flush the pipeline thoroughly before commissioning to prevent welding slag, scale, or debris from damaging the alloy steel seat surfaces.
- Never lift by the handwheel: Do not use the handwheel as a lifting point — excessive force can damage the stem threads, bonnet assembly, and O-ring seals.
- Grease the seat: Periodically inject oil-resistant sealing grease through the grease fitting to maintain optimal O-ring lubrication and sealing performance.
- Exercise idle valves: For valves in long-term idle storage, operate the handwheel periodically (monthly recommended) to prevent seat ring seizing due to gas residue accumulation.
- Purge before any line break: isolation, purging and gas-freeing per your permit-to-work procedure — never open a bonnet joint on a live line.
- Record turns to full open at commissioning (the RZ47F position is not visible) and stroke the valve fully open before any pig passes.
Application Fields
Wherever the medium is a fuel gas: city natural gas distribution and transmission; LPG storage and transfer stations; coal gas and industrial gas supply lines; gas processing plants and refinery off-gas systems; underground vault and tunnel installations (the RZ47F non-rising pattern); and metering and regulating stations, where the rising-stem RZ43F keeps position visible.
What We Need to Quote Your RZ47F / RZ43F Gas Valves
- Size, class and stem type: DN50–DN1000; PN10–PN40 (RZ47F also listed to PN4); RZ47F non-rising or RZ43F rising stem.
- Gas composition: natural gas, LPG, coal gas or oil product, plus moisture and aggressive constituents — they drive seat grease and packing choice.
- Temperature: published range −29°C to 121°C; anything outside needs confirmation.
- Installation: vault, tunnel, station or above-ground; headroom decides RZ47F vs RZ43F.
- Ends: flange standard and facing for the mating pipework (ANSI B16.5 is listed on the page).
- Operation: handwheel, gear head or actuator — sizes above DN600 have no published handwheel diameter, so tell us the operating arrangement.
- Documentation: test records per the listed standards and any project compliance clauses.
Send the line list with pressures and media and we will return per-class dimensional drawings and a quotation; drawings are in the download center and factory credentials on the certifications page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which do I pick, RZ47F or RZ43F?
Headroom and indication decide it. The RZ47F non-rising stem rotates in place, so installed height never changes – it fits vaults and low roofs. The RZ43F rising stem shows position as it opens, but needs stroke height above the bonnet. Published classes: PN4-PN40 for RZ47F, PN16-PN40 for RZ43F.
Why not install a water gate valve on a gas line?
Gas finds what water forgives. A Z45X rubber seat or Z45T bronze seat is a sealing system qualified on water, and low-pressure gas leaves residues that bond metal seats and stiffen operation – the failure mode the floating O-ring seat with preload and grease injection is designed to prevent. Seat materials and standards for gas duty differ.
Can pipeline pigs pass through the valve?
Yes – full-bore pigging and ball cleaning with the plate fully open is a stated design feature of the RZ47F/RZ43F, one of the reasons gas practice puts plate gates in transmission lines. Confirm pig diameter against the bore table, and stroke the valve fully open before a pass.
How is the seat maintained without breaking the line?
Through the grease fitting: inject oil-resistant sealing grease periodically to keep the O-ring preloaded and lubricated, and exercise the handwheel monthly on idle valves so gas residues do not bond the seat ring. Expanded graphite packing covers the stem end of the leakage path.
Is this valve fire-safe and anti-static?
The published standards are GB/T 12232, GB/T 13927, API 598, API 6D, ANSI B16.5, ISO 5208 and JB/T 308; fire-test and anti-static conformity are not stated on this page and will not be invented. If your specification requires them, send the clause – for quarter-turn gas duty the RQ41F gas ball valve does publish anti-static grounding and fire-safe compliant design.
What pressure classes and test levels are available?
PN10, PN16, PN25 and PN40 (RZ47F additionally PN4). Published test values: shell 1.5 / 2.4 / 3.8 MPa, high-pressure seal 1.1 / 1.76 / 2.75 MPa for PN10/16/25, low-pressure seal 0.6 MPa, -29 to 121 degC. PN40 and PN4 figures come with your quotation.
